Kubota Manufacturing of America New Gateway Industrial Park Site
Project Description
Southern Geotechnical Consultants, LLC (SGC) provided both geotechnical design and construction materials (CMT) testing services in association with the building pad development of Kubota Manufacturing of America’s new 184-acre complex located at the northern end of the Gateway Industrial Park in Gainesville, Georgia. As part of this project, Kubota constructed four building pads ranging in size from about 400,000 to over 600,000 square feet to accommodate future manufacturing buildings. As part of the development a total of over 1.7 million cubic yards of earthwork was required as part of mass grading.
As part of the geotechnical design services, soil test borings, seismic refraction traverses and applicable laboratory analysis were performed to help assess the nature of the subsurface materials and provide soil design parameters including a site-specific settlement analysis, soil shrinkage factors and bedrock impact quantification.
During construction, SGC provided all construction materials testing and “Special Inspections” services relating to the project including monitoring and testing all aspects of mass grading. The testing/evaluations performed during the earthwork phase included soil stability evaluations and in-place density testing for the building pad, earth reinforced retaining walls and utility backfill construction as well as rock excavation quantification verification. We also performed NPDES inspections and provided storm water monitoring
