Project Description
Southern Geotechnical Consultants, LLC (SGC) provided geotechnical engineering and construction monitoring and testing (CMT) services in association with the re-development of an approximate 130,000 square foot industrial facility at the Orangeburg Industrial Park in Orangeburg, South Carolina. To accommodate a new tenant at the existing facility, accommodations in the design were needed to install a large furnace and treatment pits that extended to depths of about 19 feet below the present slab elevation within the interior of the building. In addition, the re-configuration required that a section of the roof be heightened and that structural members be redesigned.
As part of the design phase, SGC provided geotechnical borings, laboratory testing and a site-specific seismic analysis. During construction, SGC provided all construction materials testing and “Special Inspections” services related to the project including monitoring and testing as required by the project specifications in conjunction with building construction. The tests performed during the construction phase included in-place density testing for utility and wall backfill, pile foundation and subgrade evaluations; inspections of reinforcing steel placement; bolt torque and visual weld inspections; non-destructive evaluations of moment weld connections; and concrete testing.
