Laura Lake
Project Description
Southern Geotechnical Consultants, LLC (SGC) provided geotechnical engineering services in association with the rehabilitation of the dam embankment for a 38-acre lake that was damaged from a 100-year storm event. Subsequent to the event, Georgia Safe Dams reclassified the dam to a high hazard Category 1 Structure. As such, the dam had to be reconfigured to meet the high hazard Category 1 design standards. As part of our services, SGC provided geotechnical design services that included soil test borings and the required laboratory analysis to help characterize both the existing soils comprising the dam and assess the proposed borrow soils to be used for the planned improvements. The suite of tests performed included a suite of Soil Index/Classification Tests as well as Consolidation, Shear Strength, Permeability, Standard Proctor, Crumb and Pinhole tests.
